Mendip District Council says that its call centre agents – with the help of a new telephone system – now answer more than 95 per cent of calls within 20 seconds, compared with 45pc in October.
And the number of abandoned calls has decreased from 10pc to 0.5pc.
By mid-December, the call centre had handled 140,000 about the council’s services.  Other queries included how long it takes to defrost a turkey to asking for help putting up a washing line.
