Call
centre is part of town’s big project
AS PART of a £67m scheme, Wigan Council is to open a call centre with 100 staff.
In January, the council will choose from three companies bidding to carry out
the project and work is likely to start in summer next year for completion by
Christmas 2010.
The town’s swimming pool and municipal buildings will be demolished to create a
council and leisure “hub”.
It will comprise a call centre and one-stop shop, library and information zone,
swimming pool, exercise and health facilities – including a surgery and clinic –
and facilities bringing together public services such as council, housing,
leisure, police, fire and voluntary sector.
Bob Saunders is the council’s executive director and project manager.
He said the call centre would be the first point of contact not only for the
council but also for non-emergency calls for health, police and fire services.
The aim was for 80pc of calls to be resolved first time.
